I find it interesting that the two weeks before I need to renew my security software on my computer I'm suddenly getting all kinds of warnings that this virus or that Trojan has been caught. When the rest of the year is simply reports of cookies found and deleted. I have long suspected that some computer viruses are actually created by security companies to increase sales. I guess that is a jaded way to look at things but the world can be a jaded place sometimes. Right now I have Trend Micro, but I have not been happy with how inconvenient it is when it does a scan. I may go back to my old software.
What about you? Do you have a favorite software?
It's a conspiracy!
ReplyDeleteI have Symantec and it works very well.
Actually I hoped to see more comments so I could find a good company too. I am fed up with most virus alerts I get.
ReplyDeleteLinda, right now I have Trend Micro-but ugh it is slow. I had PC shield and may go back to them. I'll keep you posted!
ReplyDeleteI'm not happy with any of them since I had the SAME spyware on my computer. Three different companies caught it and each claimed to delete it. In the end the thing that seemed to get rid of it was just getting IE8 instead of keeping 7. I have McAfee. It's not too bad and I'm pretty loyal to them because I've only had the one incident of spyware with them.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on companies creating this stuff though. Ugh.
Hope you find something better!
Never been happier with McAfee, Norton (Symantec) sold me up a river when we got hit by a really nasty worm several years ago. McAfee cleaned, Norton sat there and inundated me with white papers. I can write technical, read it? Hell no. But we just added 2 laptops to our army and the additional software is breaking the bank, so we're trying a free program (download.com which is CNet's site), AVG. I hear it's good. But highly recommend McAfee (and there are always 2 camps - McAfee and Norton. Kind of like Mac's and PC's). Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOooo, wanted to add that we run (also a free download) both Ad-aware and Spybot on our computers. I've used those programs since the kids were in kindergarten (so, quick math, almost 9 years now) and I worked on the 185+ computers at their school, keeping them safe. It was a regular Fort Knox.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathie, I think I'll download those freebies now. :)
