April 28

That silly robin tried to build a nest-again-on the portico post right beside the patio door that goes out to my deck. I had to knock down his hard work, twice. Then stand by the door for a couple of hours and discourage him from coming back. The dogs thought it was big fun. Later that afternoon when I was mowing the lawn, I saw that he had picked a new spot, under the two story deck beside the walkout basement patio door. Sigh. This is better though. We rarely use the basement door and the dogs aren't allowed in that part of the yard. (It's the part with the terraced strawberry garden. You know, the sight of the great bunny massacre of '08.) Animals can be persistent and I think human beings can learn a lot from them. Have a great day. Cheers~

  1. We have a robins' nest in ivy against our garden wall. It's a safe position tucked behind some bushes. This pair of robins have been nesting there for years so they must be experienced. Your robins sound like young lovers, not yet sure what it's all about. Sad that they'll soon learn about life the hard way... a bit like us humans really.

  2. We stopped hanging things on our front door, as that is where some bird always built her nest!

  3. We had a robin build his nest inside our bbq grill last year. Laid eggs and all before we caught it. We moved it very carefully, but I don't know if she ever came back to her egg. Very careful to make sure the cover is secure now.

  4. Crazy, isn't it? Last year we had a pair of ducks nest in our ornamental grass near the patio. Scared my daughter when she went to pull weeds and they chased her. But something else must have attacked because soon there were broken duck eggs everywhere. The ducks did not use that spot this year-so they learned.
