July 1

Most of you know, but for those who don't my big old dog George Bernard died last night- of old age- he was 84 in dog years and had weak lungs for the last 5 years. Today is more quiet than usual in the house and little dog Gracie is moping and doesn't seem to understand what exactly happened-even though he died at home.
We adopted him in July and lost him in July 12 years later. He was big and fluffy and soft and patient and smart and saw my kids through their middle grade and teen years. He did his job well.

  1. I could cry! I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose not just a pet, but a friend. My little Areba (cat) is almost 18 now. She's got her kid-like moments still..but in my heart I cherish every moment I have left of her golden years. I'll be introducing a kitten into the house in a few weeks and it will be a mix of emotions. But when Areba does leave this life, I can't imagine a quiet house with NO pet. I'm glad you have Gracie. She's going to miss her friend. :( Sorry for your loss!

  3. Hi Heidi, we got Gracie a few years ago because George was getting old and we hoped to extend his life. It worked. :) Still hard when they get old and go, but also, it's nice that we get to have them so long. Isn't it?
Hi Linda, thanks. George was my first real pet. He taught me a lot about love and play and patience. I'm glad you had wonderful pets in your life, too. Cheers~

  4. Aaaah no Nancy! So sorry to hear this. My 14 year old Josephina went to cat heaven last year June and it was like losing a child, she was so much part of the family and had such a big personality. Her "sister" Theodora is very cute and keeps me company but she's also getting on (15 years) and I hope she's around for a long while yet. Sending ((((hugs))) and a fond farewell to your old faithful George.

  5. Ahhh, Nancy. I'm so sorry for your loss. We only adopted our Fenway 2 years ago but I already can't imagine life without him tagging at my heels.
